AI.Proof

Preparing youth and (civil) society for the risks and opportunities of AI

AI.Proof aims to promote future-focused media literacy and foster a habit of critical reflection in the times of an increasingly ubiquitous use of AI, among youth workers, youth organizations and ultimately young people. It seeks to strengthen digital readiness, resilience, and ethical AI use by connecting AI specialists with “newcomers” to facilitate knowledge exchange and by promoting dialogue on ethical AI use in education and civic spaces after the recent launching of the EU AI Act.

AI.Proof – Preparing youth and (civil) society for the risks and opportunities of AI

As AI technologies increasingly shape education, communication, and social life, the project addresses digital transformation in its current, potentially transformative aspect. It initially empowers youth work professionals—and subsequently young people—to become “AI-proof” on both a personal and professional level: informed, critical, inclusive, and adaptable.

The main objective of the project is to promote “modern” media literacy and critical reflection on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among youth workers, civil society actors and young people themselves.

Specifically, the project pursues four central objectives:

  1. Raise awareness among youth workers, educators and young people about the risks, ethical challenges and transformative potential of AI
  2. To promote the transfer of knowledge from AI experts and enthusiasts to newcomers in order to stimulate curiosity and independent learning in the field of AI
  3. To equip youth workers with basic AI knowledge and practical tools to promote critical reflection and AI competence among young people
  4. To initiate discussions on the integration of AI in civil society and educational institutions and to formulate concrete policy recommendations in line with the EU AI Act.

The project activities are divided into five work packages (WPs):

  • WP1 covers project management and ensures efficient, well-documented and quality-assured project execution
  • WP2 involves collecting testimonials and insights from AI experts and interested parties in text and video format to provide newcomers with access to key topics and real-world perspectives. The main output is the multilingual digital platform “Book of AI Experiences.”
  • WP3 includes the joint development of the AI.Proof podcast series for youth work professionals, covering topics such as AI & Ethics, AI in non-formal education and youth voices in the digital age
  • WP4 includes an international learning, teaching and training activity (LTTA) for youth workers and the development of a practice-oriented educational material (AI.Proof – Toolkit) to promote AI competence in non-formal learning contexts
  • WP5 brings together all measures for disseminating the project and its results, as well as the development of policy recommendations for the ethical and effective integration of AI in youth work and education. This includes a series of multiplier events.

Together, the work packages contribute to stimulating the discussion about AI and strengthening and further developing the skills of youth workers in dealing with it.
